a multimedia interactive gallery installation offering the user glimpses into Judaism, Christianity and Islam

I have been interested in making animated art work for a few years now. For this project I first created a traditional painting on canvas. I digitized the painting which then became the interface for the underlying video and animations. I chose a floor mat for the interactive user interface. The project was created using: Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash,Action Script 2.0, After Effects, Final Cut Pro. The audio design was done in Logic Express. The installation was exhibited at the 688 Sutter Street art gallery, San Francisco, in June 2008.

My MFA project is a multimedia gallery installation entitled Sacred Space. In this installation I want to explore how inter-faith dialogue can help create solutions to our current situation. Through video, audio, animation and interaction the user is offered glimpses into these three faith traditions.
The installation consists of a painting on canvas and a projected digital version of the painting which is controlled by an interactive mat. The digital painting contains underlying animations introducing four separate content areas: Sacred Text, Art & Culture, Essentials, and Building Bridges. Within each content area the user has access to video interviews with a representative from each faith tradition. The interactive mat allows the user to select the content area and navigate within the selected area.
My hope is to invite the user into a reflective experience, a contemplative dialogue with the three faith traditions and thus foster greater understanding and tolerance.

This .pdf of my MFA process book is available for download (1.4MB) It describes my project and process in some detail.
